Ziegler (za0739)
Ziegler is the name of a design rather than an actual city or tribe. Ziegler design rugs are sometimes known as Chobi rugs or Peshawar rugs. A German company based in Manchester (England), Ziegler and Co. commissioned the development of the original Ziegler rugs back in 1883. Using leading designers and master weavers from Iran and Europe, Ziegler and Co. managed to create a design using softer palettes than those typically found in Persia. Ziegler rugs were designed with the western market in mind and fit perfectly into almost any home. Based on a softer version of the Sultanabad design their muted colours using vegetable dyes and simple, yet striking pattern fit well with modern neutral colour schemes and both contemporary or traditional furniture. The weaving of Zeigler rugs began in the Arak provence, however, they are now made all over the Persian region. Zeiglers have re-introduced vegetable dyes back into Persian & Oriental weaving after the popular use of chemical dyes since the start of the 20th century. Although their knot count is not generally high (around 80-120 KPSI), the hand-spun Ghazni or Himalayan wool used is of high quality and the structure very durable. Ziegler rugs are possibly the most popular and sought after handmade rugs in the UK due to their gentle tones and softer patterns - there are not many rooms that would not be improved by a Ziegler rug. Old Persian Bidjar (Gray) (11xy2807)
HANDMADE RUG - Bidjar is a town of a round thirty thousand inhabitants in the North Western province of Kurdestan. It was occupied by Russians then Turks in World War I- and this was followed by a serious famine which drastically reduced the population. These events were reflected in the town's rug production. Before World War I, the carpets were coarsely, though firmly, knotted with woollen warps and wefts. Subsequently they become finer, with a cotton foundation. A peculiar weaving technique involving driving in an additional thick weft makes Bijar carpets extremely solid and hardwearing. The Designs are somewhat standardized: a Herati (Mahi) design with medallions, one inside the next, of red, blue and white. Sometimes an all-over Mahi design is seen. More originality was seen in old Bijar rugs, in those produced in the village of Shahndej and in the so-called 'Halvai' Bijar rugs. Other weaving centres which come within the general category of Bijar are Bidgeneh and Garus. This particular piece is extremely fine handmade old Persian Bijar Rug with superior traditional design and one of a kind. It has an excellent shade of colours and makes it really impressive to look at. A great authentic beautiful rug and a great bargain for the price.

Persian Shiraz Kilim (20mm486)
HANDMADE RUG - A Shiraz Rug is a type of Persian rug made in the villages around the city of Shiraz, a city in the south west region of Persia, sited practically upon the old Persian Persepolis. The designs tend to come from settled tribal weavers so they mimic Qashqai, Khamseh, Afshar, Abadeh and Luri designs. Since the weavers are using fixed looms the rugs tend to be larger and often coarser than their tribal counterparts. Shiraz utilizes the Persian (asymmetrical) knot. The average knot count is around 120 KPSI. Shiraz rugs are not usually made in a large factory, with the majority of them being woven by home weavers and are woven on a cotton or wool foundation with a woollen pile. These nomadic rugs are almost always geometrical in style. Patterns tend to be small medallions or geometric figures scattered across the rugs. Strong reds and brown are the most typical colour of Shiraz rugs, they are extremely hard wearing and compliment wooden floors well. FREE DELIVERY ON THIS RUG within UK mainland.

All Sumak have geometric pattern with many tribal motifs all around. Usually the motifs are small birds. Sumak are excellent with contemporary, traditional and modern decors.

persian Ziegler (Gold) (113288)
HANDMADE RUG - Ziegler is the name of a design rather than an actual city or tribe.
